MOPAWI, the Agency for the Development of La Mosquitia, is a local Miskito organization with more than 40 years of work in Honduras's remote Moskitia region. In June 2026 it joined content creator Sergio Arce's 'Agua para La Moskitia' campaign to bring safe drinking water to the Indigenous communities of Yamanta and Kruta, more than 3,000 people who rely on shallow hand-dug wells contaminated with sediment and pathogens. The new wells will feed large storage tanks and run on solar panels, so the system does not depend on the national grid, and the communities will manage the water themselves. The campaign budget is 767,821 lempiras to buy materials and move heavy machinery to the area.
