MoveGreen started as a youth environmental movement in 2011 and pivoted in 2017 to focus on the coal- and traffic-driven smog choking Bishkek and Osh, building the AQ.kg app that streams live PM2.5 and PM10 readings from monitoring stations across Kyrgyzstan. It went on to launch the Air Quality Central Asia (AQCA) dialogue platform, linking government agencies, scientists and civil society across Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan to coordinate action on transboundary air pollution. Its founder, Maria Kolesnikova, was named a 2021 UN Champion of the Earth for the group's data-driven advocacy work.
