In August 2024 the National Council of Churches of Kenya committed to plant 1.5 billion trees over ten years; by April 2025 its General Secretary reported 100,000 planted and agreed a climate partnership with the Ministry of Environment. In September 2025 NCCK's Kisumu branch, with the Lake Basin Development Authority and Mazingira na Jamii Afrika, launched a county-wide campaign with more than 600 clergy, targeting 1.5 million trees within a year, with 360 Steward of Grace clergy tasked to get every member planting at least one tree. NCCK has also trained school 4K Club patrons and 30 Environment Faith Champions in Kitui County to run tree nurseries. The Kisumu target is a goal, and no progress count has been published yet.
