Nia Tero: Securing Indigenous Guardianship of Ancestral Territories

Founded in 2017 and based in Seattle, Nia Tero forges direct partnership agreements with Indigenous-led organizations across Amazonia, the Pacific Islands, and North America's boreal forest, prioritizing Indigenous self-determination over top-down conservation models. Since its founding it has distributed more than $125 million in grants, with the large majority awarded directly to Indigenous organizations or allies of their choosing.
