Norwegian Orca Survey is a non-profit dedicated to long-term research and conservation of the killer whales that frequent Norwegian coastal waters. Through boat surveys, drones, photo-identification, acoustic monitoring and genetic sampling, its researchers have identified over 1,500 individual killer whales and logged more than 11,000 photo-ID records and 3,300 encounters since the organization began fieldwork in 2014. The data feed scientific publications and policy work aimed at protecting killer whales and their prey from environmental change and human pressures, and the team has directly rescued 10 entangled or stranded whales.
