Guarding Loggerhead Nests on Tunisia's Coast
by Notre Grand Bleu ยท HQ ๐น๐ณ Tunisia
Founded in 2012 in Monastir, Notre Grand Bleu works to protect Caretta caretta loggerhead sea turtles and the wider Mediterranean marine environment, running a rehabilitation center that treats injured, sick or entangled turtles found along the Tunisian coast. The association monitors nesting beaches around Monastir and the Kuriat Islands, escorting hatchlings safely to the sea, and in 2023 documented fourteen sea turtle nests on Mahdia's beaches, expanding known nesting sites beyond Kuriat. Through its youth-focused "Notre Grand Bleu Junior" program and partnerships with Tunisia's national marine science institute (INSTM), it also runs school-based education and awareness campaigns on marine biodiversity.
