Ocean Purpose Project, founded by Mathilda D'Silva in 2020, is a Pasir Ris-based social enterprise tackling marine plastic pollution and coastal water quality through Project White Sands, its flagship program of monthly community beach cleanups. Collected ocean plastic is fed into a plastic-to-fuel pyrolysis unit at Nanyang Technological University, converting it into low-sulfur fuel, hydrogen and carbon nanotubes with full gas-emission capture. The project also grows native seaweed and mussel lines and 'coral reef stars' off Pasir Ris to filter polluted seawater and restore fragile coastal habitat, while mobilizing thousands of volunteers of all ages each year.
