Food Parcels for Latvian Families Who Fall Through the Cracks

Run by the Samaritan Association of Latvia since 2008, "Paēdušai Latvijai" (For a Fed Latvia) collects donated food from retailers such as Rimi, Maxima and Lidl and from producers, then distributes it as parcels through more than 30 partner charities and soup kitchens nationwide. It targets people who are struggling but don't hold official low-income status, including families with children, seniors and people with disabilities. Donated food volumes have grown sharply as more retailers commit to giving away surplus stock instead of discarding it.
