Regrowing a Native Forest Corridor in Vietnam's Northwest

Founded in 2006, PanNature works with ethnic-minority communities across Vietnam's Central Highlands and northwest mountains to revive traditional forest management and restore degraded land. Its 'Greening the Forests' program, launched in 2022, aims to restore 500 hectares of natural forest linking the Mai Chau (Hoa Binh) and Van Ho (Son La) landscapes by 2032, rebuilding a green corridor and habitat for the endangered white-cheeked gibbon and other endemic species. Since the program began, PanNature and its partners have planted more than 180,000 native trees, restoring over 280 hectares, including a 2025 campaign that put 60,000 native saplings into nearly 100 hectares of protection forest around Xuan Nha Nature Reserve. The organization continues to hold community planning meetings with villages such as Pa Cop, Ta De, and Long Luong to align restoration work with local livelihoods.
