Paso Pacifico trains community-based rangers, some of them former poachers, to patrol nesting beaches in and around La Flor Wildlife Refuge on Nicaragua's Pacific coast. Over the past decade its rangers have protected more than 50,000 sea turtle eggs from hawksbill, leatherback, olive ridley and green turtles across six key nesting beaches. The organization pairs this turtle work with landscape-scale conservation, having helped restore more than 1,000 acres of Pacific dry forest and rainforest habitat that supports jaguars, spider monkeys and yellow-naped parrots.
