Project Biodiversity is a Cabo Verdean non-profit running community-based conservation on Sal Island, combining nightly beach patrols, nest relocation, guarded hatcheries, and shark and seabird research with training and paid work for local residents, including through its Women of the Sea (Amdjer d'mar) fisheries programme. During the 2024 nesting season the team recorded 36,587 loggerhead nests along Sal's coastline and released 115,962 hatchlings into the ocean, while beach poaching fell sharply from about 440 recorded cases in 2021 to 110 in 2024.
