Solar Pumping Stations Give Cambodian Rice Farmers a Second Harvest

Pteah Baitong is a Phnom Penh social enterprise that has worked on solar energy for smallholder farmers in Cambodia since 2015. Today it builds and runs solar-powered pumping stations and sells irrigation as a service to farmer water-user communities. In February 2024 it installed a solar pumping station with the Kbal Kmouch Farmer Water User Community in Kampong Thom Province, which lets its rice farmers grow two crops a year. Its website reports 175+ smallholder farmers empowered and 330+ hectares of rice field irrigated across 3+ farmer communities.
