Paris Parents' Air Watchdog Wins Streets Outside Schools

Association Respire, founded in 2011 and based in Paris, campaigns for cleaner air across France. Its current campaigns cover school streets (Rues aux ecoles), industrial pollution, logistics and wood heating. Its June 2026 review found Paris had 279 school streets, 174 closed to traffic and 105 with calmed traffic, short of the 300 target set in 2020. In September 2026 Suez abandoned an incinerator project in Istres after local mobilisation that Respire supported, and in October 2026 it welcomed the National Assembly's rejection of a bill to abolish Low Emission Zones.
