RSCF: Guarding the Last St. Vincent Amazon Parrots

The St. Vincent Amazon parrot exists nowhere else on Earth, and after decades of habitat loss and the illegal pet trade, its wild population had fallen to an estimated 500 birds by the early 2020s. RSCF has supported Eastern Caribbean parrot conservation for nearly three decades, funding field monitoring, aviary upgrades, and habitat protection guidance alongside the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Forestry Department. When the La Soufrière volcano erupted in April 2021 for the first time in 40 years, RSCF helped mobilize emergency relief, veterinary care, and rainforest field clinics for injured and displaced parrots alongside partners including BirdsCaribbean, Fauna & Flora International, and the Houston Zoo. The organization continues to fund field support for the species and the island's endemic Whistling Warbler today.
