The Volunteers Who Protect 93% of Queensland from Bushfire

The Rural Fire Brigades Association Queensland represents and resources the state's network of volunteer rural fire brigades, receiving no government funding and instead raising money through art unions and donations to buy trucks, equipment and safety gear. The brigades it supports are made up of ordinary residents who train, patrol and respond to bushfires threatening their own towns and farms, covering land outside the reach of urban fire services. In the six years to 2025 RFBAQ channeled over AUD 6.4 million in grants, vehicles and equipment directly to local brigades.
