Rwanga Foundation is an Erbil-based Kurdish non-profit, founded in 2013, whose Green Kurdistan campaign includes solar villages. On 20 May 2025 it opened Kulak in Harir district, Iraq's first fully off-grid solar-powered village, where about 195 panels supply a school, a mosque, a community hall and 36 homes with uninterrupted electricity. By July 2026 Gulf Times reported that Rwanga had taken five villages completely off the grid, with solar power for homes, schools, mosques and health centers, and that Ziarat village had just come online. Planned next steps include solar-driven irrigation and regenerative agriculture training.
