Sajha Yatayat, set up in 1962, signed a deal in October 2021 for 40 battery-electric buses and launched its electric service in Kathmandu with female drivers and conductors. Its website says around 40 electric buses now run on major Valley routes, including Lalitpur, backed by 20 DC fast chargers including the depot at Pulchowk. In 2026 it expanded its night service so that 28 electric buses cover six routes, up from seven buses on two routes. The buses have no tailpipe exhaust, taking diesel vehicles out of one of the world's most polluted valleys, though Sajha has not published measured emission savings or ridership.
