Tracking Every Dam Threatening South Asia's Rivers
by South Asia Network on Dams, Rivers and People (SANDRP) ยท HQ ๐ฎ๐ณ India
SANDRP is an informal network of engineers, researchers and activists, coordinated by Himanshu Thakkar, that investigates the environmental and social impacts of large dams, hydropower projects and river-linking schemes across India and South Asia. Through its bi-monthly newsletter 'Dams, Rivers & People' and near-daily blog, the network publishes technical critiques that feed into court cases, environmental clearance objections and community campaigns against destructive projects, from Himalayan hydropower to river-interlinking schemes. Its running annual reports tally dam accidents, safety failures and environmental clearance decisions, giving communities and journalists a rare independent counterweight to government and industry dam data.
