The Seahorse Trust, a Devon charity founded in 1999, uses seahorses as the flagship for protecting seagrass and the wider seabed. At Studland Bay in Dorset, designated a Marine Conservation Zone in 2019, its partnership has installed 87 of the roughly 100 eco-moorings now in the bay, starting with the first 10 in August 2021. Each mooring is held by a 2-metre helical screw rather than a heavy chain that scours the seagrass. The Trust also runs the British Seahorse Survey, set up in 1994, and published a Broadsands seagrass and seahorse survey report for 2024 in June 2025.
