Shambala Festival has rebuilt its production around a circular 'materials economy' designed to leave no waste from build, breakdown or audience, diverting over 90% of festival waste from landfill through a refundable recycling deposit scheme. It has cut its carbon footprint by more than 90%, runs on 100% renewable electricity, and has served no meat, fish or dairy milk for close to a decade. Through its own reforestation project the festival plants more than 10,000 trees a year in Northamptonshire, and profits from its on-site spirits supplier fund local conservation charities. Shambala has won the International A Greener Festival Award five times.
