The World Toilet Organization was established in Singapore in 2001 to break the taboo around toilets and push for safe, hygienic sanitation for everyone. In 2005 it set up World Toilet College as a social enterprise to train officials, masons and professional toilet cleaners; with Reckitt and partners it launched India's first such college in Rishikesh, training over 5,000 people in the first 24 months. Its 2022 annual report says the college trained and placed over 2,700 sanitation workers in 2020-21 despite COVID-19, and the Rainbow School Toilet program builds toilets for schools. The World Toilet Summit 2026 will mark its 25th anniversary on 17-19 November 2026 at the Asian Institute of Technology in Thailand.
