Slow Food: Defending Local, Fair Food Traditions

Slow Food was founded in 1986 by Carlo Petrini and friends near Rome, in protest at the arrival of fast food chains, to champion food that is good, clean and fair. It has grown into a global grassroots network of local chapters, called convivia, that support small farmers and fishers, protect endangered foods and traditional varieties, and run education and biodiversity projects such as the Ark of Taste catalogue. The movement is now present in 160 countries with roughly 1,500 local convivia.
