SUGi partners with local 'Forest Makers' to plant fast-growing, multi-layered native forests using the Miyawaki method on unused urban land, from schoolyards to former parking lots. The dense plantings mature far faster than conventional tree planting, cooling surrounding streets, filtering air and stormwater, and drawing back birds, pollinators and other wildlife within a few years. Since launching in 2019, SUGi has planted 230 pocket forests in 52 cities across six continents, with 140 of those forests planted on school grounds alongside nearly 80,000 children.
