Superar: Free Music Education Bridging Vienna's Divides

Inspired by Venezuela's El Sistema, Superar was founded in Vienna in 2009 to give children with little access to cultural education free, long-term music and dance training, starting with 350 children at three Viennese primary schools. It has since grown into a network of 31 locations, expanding within Austria to Styria and Vorarlberg from 2013 and abroad to Switzerland, Hungary, Slovakia, Romania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Liechtenstein. Today more than 5,600 children and young people across these seven countries rehearse and perform together in Superar's choirs and orchestras, using shared music-making to build confidence and connection across social and cultural lines.
