Founded in 2009, Sustainable Coastlines runs Love Your Coast beach clean-ups alongside an education programme that trains schools, businesses and communities to prevent litter and cut single-use plastic. In 2018 it launched Litter Intelligence, New Zealand's only national litter-monitoring programme, developed with Stats NZ, NIWA and the Department of Conservation. More than 10,000 trained citizen scientists now run quarterly litter surveys at over 210 sites around the country, producing open data used to target clean-up and policy efforts.
