Team Lioness

Launched by IFAW in 2019 with eight young Maasai women, Team Lioness is part of the Olgulului Community Wildlife Rangers protecting roughly 150,000 hectares of community land that forms a vital migratory corridor between Amboseli National Park and the Tsavo ecosystem. Many of the rangers are the first women in their families to hold formal employment; they patrol on foot, intervene in human-wildlife conflict, and have helped drive down retaliatory killings of predators by herders. The unit has grown from 8 to 17 rangers who patrol up to 400km a month and also run a wildlife club for local schoolchildren.
