Formed in 2002 when the Friends of Tetepare and the Tetepare Traditional Landowners Association merged, TDA now represents over 3,000 descendants who together decided to keep their ancestral island of Tetepare, in the Solomon Islands, permanently unlogged. The association runs ranger patrols across the island's lowland rainforest and manages a 13-kilometer no-take marine protected area along its coast, funding conservation and ranger salaries through a community-run ecolodge that employs local people. It is considered one of the largest integrated land-and-sea community conservation initiatives in the Solomon Islands.
