The Ocean Cleanup

Founded by Boyan Slat, The Ocean Cleanup develops technology to remove plastic already afloat in the Great Pacific Garbage Patch while intercepting plastic in the world's most polluting rivers before it reaches the sea. In March 2026 it passed 50 million kilograms of trash captured through its global operations, with Interceptor systems across countries including the US, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Guatemala, Jamaica, and the Dominican Republic. Its stated goal is to remove 90% of floating ocean plastic by 2040.
