Founded in 1998, UCRT supports villages to map boundaries, negotiate land-use plans and secure Certificates of Customary Right of Occupancy (CCROs) โ Tanzania's mechanism for formalizing communal land ownership. This work protects grazing corridors and wildlife dispersal areas from being fenced off or grabbed for large-scale farming and gives women formal seats on land and leadership committees for the first time. UCRT was a finalist for the 2024 Earthshot Prize and won a 2024 Ashden Award for its rangeland restoration and land-rights model.
