UCRUS is the trade union of Uruguay's clasificadores, the waste pickers and sorters of Montevideo and the interior, affiliated with the PIT-CNT labor federation. In September 2025 the Consejo de Salarios Group 19 agreed to create Subgroup 6.3 covering workers who collect, transport, classify and recover commercial and industrial waste, who had been excluded from existing subgroups. Its leader, Patricia Gutiérrez, estimates more than 10,000 clasificadores in Montevideo and about 5,000 in the interior. Its next goals are a national register of recyclers and recognition of years worked toward a dignified pension.
