VeryNile — Cleaning the World's Longest River

Launched in 2018 with backing from Egypt's Ministry of Environment, VeryNile mobilizes volunteers and works with local fishermen on Cairo's Qursaya Island who are paid above-market rates per kilogram of plastic pulled from the Nile. Collected waste is recycled or upcycled into products, while the initiative provides social services to fishing families hit by the river's declining fish stocks. It has become Cairo's flagship river cleanup movement.
