WASARU, a Kinshasa-based association founded in 2023 by researcher Paulson Kasereka Isevulambire, runs Project Kinshasa Air Quality (KINAQ) with Columbia University's Westervelt group and support from the EPIC Air Quality Fund. By mid-2025 it had deployed ten low-cost monitors across the city and publishes open PM2.5 data for citizens, scientists and policymakers. Outreach has reached four schools in Kimwenza, UPN, Ngaliema and Kingabwa, and household conversations explain what the readings mean. Master's students at the Kinshasa School of Public Health are encouraged to mine the data, and the team plans to scale the network across urban and peri-urban DRC.
