Nine Million Trees and Counting in Armenia

Armenia Tree Project was founded in 1994 after families desperate to heat their homes stripped the country's woodlands during a winter fuel crisis. Thirty years on, the organization has planted more than 9 million trees and shrubs through four state-of-the-art nurseries and two environmental education centers in Armenia, while removing an estimated 100,000 tons of CO2 annually. It employs roughly 80 full-time staff plus about 500 seasonal workers, and has brought environmental education to over 110,000 students and teachers.
