Potato Park (Parque de la Papa)

Established by Asociación ANDES together with six Quechua communities in the Cusco highlands, the Potato Park protects a secondary center of origin for the potato between roughly 3,200 and 5,000 meters elevation. More than 6,000 residents conserve around 1,400 native potato and Andean tuber varieties in situ, including varieties returned through a landmark repatriation agreement with the International Potato Center's genebank. The park pairs in-field crop conservation with indigenous rights advocacy and climate-resilience research.
