Ubuntu Pathways: A Cradle-to-Career Safety Net for Gqeberha's Townships

Founded in 1999 in a township school in Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth), Ubuntu Pathways now runs an integrated campus with a pediatric clinic, an Early Childhood Development Centre, the Ubuntu School, and a Job Skills Centre, all serving the same 2,000 children and their families from birth into careers. Its healthcare programme delivers 745 prenatal services and roughly 35,000 health and case-management services every year, and 100% of HIV-positive mothers in its care have delivered HIV-negative babies. The Ubuntu School currently educates 280 students from early childhood through grade 8, all of whom receive two meals and a snack daily, with plans to extend through grade 12 by 2029. A team of more than 150 staff, almost all drawn from the community they serve, also runs the campus's health, education, and household-stability programmes.
